The Daguerreotype Process Explained
A daguerreotype starts with a polished silver-coated copper plate. The photographer sensitizes it with iodine vapor to make it light-sensitive. The subject sits in a studio with skylights for natural light. They pose without moving, often with head supports. Exposure time was 10 to 20 minutes in 1840.
