The Nepo Baby Dominance - Elite Children Are Reshaping Modeling
As a new generation of models, known as "nepo babies," takes center stage in runway shows and advertising campaigns, the fashion industry has undergone a dramatic change in recent years. These individuals, who often come from prominent families, have connections and immediate name recognition when they begin their careers.
In the age of Instagram, second-generation celebrities like Gigi Hadid, the daughter of Yolanda Hadid, and Kaia Gerber, the daughter of Cindy Crawford, are redefining what it means to be a model. Even though their affluent upbringings surely offer them early advantages, many nepo newborns must endure rigorous screening to establish their validity beyond well-known last names.

The question remains: Are they just following in the footsteps of their smart parents, or are they taking advantage of unjust advantages? While some contend that their prominence is a reflection of fashion's fixation with celebrities, others point out that a number of them have shown true talent in front of the lens. One thing is certain: as the industry struggles with issues of legacy versus meritocracy, nepo kids are changing the power dynamics in modeling and bringing up issues of privilege and access.
