‘The Great North’ Ends as Fox Cancels After S5
Fox confirmed the end of The Great North on October 3, 2025, after its fifth season wrapped up. The animated comedy had been a fun part of the network's Sunday night lineup for five years. Fans were upset because the show ended without much warning, just two weeks after the finale aired.
Michael Thorn, the president of Fox Television Network, shared a statement thanking the team for their hard work. He said the five seasons were full of laughs, and it was tough to say goodbye to the series. The news closed the door on several 2025 shows, including dramas like Rescue HI-Surf and The Cleaning Lady.

The Great North was the last animated one to get the axe. Earlier in the year, Fox made big deals to keep shows like The Simpsons and Bob’s Burgers going strong. But The Great North wasn't part of those plans, which made its end feel predictable. Still, it had a solid run with 97 episodes that fans cherished.

Set against snowy mountains and the Northern Lights, the series felt unique and cozy. Each episode ran about 22 minutes and aired on Fox's Animation Domination block. The creators drew from real Alaskan life to make the town feel alive. Characters often ran into wild animals or quirky neighbors, adding to the fun.
Themes like growing up and accepting change ran through the stories. Unlike some cartoons with mean jokes, The Great North kept things positive and supportive. It appealed to families who wanted lighthearted entertainment without too much edge. The animation style was bright and detailed, showing Alaska's beauty in a cartoon way.

The Great North was overlooked, signaling trouble. The network prioritized long-running hits over mid-tier shows.
