First Lady to the Moon
Margaret Hamilton, highlighted in this uncommon verifiable photograph from 1969, is the computer programmer whose set of experiences neglected to make into a commonly recognized name, such as Neil Armstrong or Buzz Aldrin. Hamilton drove the NASA programming group that handled the Apollo space travelers on the moon. She was a ‘programmer’ before anyone even knew about the term, and in the photograph highlighted, is remaining close to what is accepted to be the code or program postings for the effective Apollo space mission. “She was a trailblazer when it came to the improvement of computer programming and…a pioneer as a lady in the working environment adding to this kind of program, taking on this sort of job.” – said Dr. Teasel Muir-Agreement, the keeper of the Venture Apollo assortment at the Smithsonian Public Air and Space Gallery.
