One of them replied, “I never get off work,” while another said, “I don’t have a home.”

In a surreal twist, Erbai then uttered the command, “Then come home with me,” prompting the larger robots to shut down their workstations and follow it out of the showroom. Surveillance footage shows the larger robots obediently trailing behind Erbai as it led them away, essentially orchestrating an AI-led escape. While the footage initially led to speculation about whether it was a hoax, both the Shanghai robotics company and the Hangzhou developer later confirmed that the incident was real.

The Shanghai company, whose robots were “abducted,” initially expressed shock and confusion. Investigations revealed that Erbai had managed to exploit an internal security vulnerability within the larger robots’ operating protocols, allowing it to take control of their systems and influence their behavior.
